A Message from the County President
Dear Athlete,
The publication of the South Yorkshire fixture list heralds the start of the 2007 Track and Field season. Will it be better than 2006 season or the dozen years previously. Sadly we have seen a decline in athletics over these years along with sport in general. But at long last the administration at the top of the sport have seen this and are producing reports on the many reasons for the decline......but only reports!!!!
A theme that constantly reoccurs is that in this age of leisure, young people have less spare time, time spent travelling being one of the gripes.
But here at South Yorkshire athletics, the County officials have made wholesale changes to the Track and Field League to make it more attractive to all age groups. Travel distances are short with matches scheduled for Woodburn Road Sheffield, Herringthorpe Rotherham , Cudworth Barnsley and now the new track at Doncaster ! Remember you can compete in any event you like, in the league, in any numbers and entries can be taken on the day The more you athletes compete, the better the competition will be.!
The track relays is probably the most exciting event of the season , and Open relays are being promoted to add to this. Clubs are promoting several Open meetings so South Yorkshire Athletics will not be wasting any of your valuable time on long distance travel !
If the situation is still not to your liking ask your club representative, or do it yourself, to contact the South Yorkshire County Secretary. We are doing all we can to promote South Yorkshire Athletics. You athletes please do all you can to SUPPORT SOUTH YORKSHIRE ATHLETICS. You KNOW it is the greatest sport there is, I am looking forward to the new season, I will see you then on the track. or in the field, hoping you will be trying as hard as the officials are on your behalf!
Yours Sincerely
Ralph Rowbotham (President )
